‘Tropical storm to restore summer to Wales’

- THOMAS DEACON Reporter thomas.deacon@walesonline.co.uk

ALTHOUGH Wales is experiencing less than summery conditions at the moment, warmer temperatures could be on the way.

And it’s all down to a raging storm over Asia which is set to start moving across the globe in the next few days.

Tropical storm Krosa is spinning around over the north-west Pacific Ocean before unleashing its power over Japan and the far east of Russia.

But Welsh weatherman and Channel

4 star Liam Dutton said it could have a domino effect when it bumps into the jet stream, which sits high up in the atmosphere.

Liam explained that this will send a “ripple” eastwards along the jet stream, comparing it to what happens “when you flick a skipping rope”.

This ripple could move along the jet stream above the Atlantic ocean, pushing it north of the UK and seeing high pressure sweep in instead of low pressure.

And if that happens, it would bring more settled weather for the end of August, with some sunshine and a “warmer feel than of late”.

Millions of people have felt the brunt of storm Krosa over Japan.

AccuWeather said the country could face damaging wind gusts, flooding, mudslides and storm surges along parts of the coast.

The Met Office said their mid- to long-term forecasts also show high pressure building from the middle of next week.

Met Office spokesman Oli Claydon said they “broadly agree” with TV weatherman Liam – but added that other factors could also bring warmer weather to these shores.

The forecasters predict that next week will see longer, drier and more settled spells, especially in the south.

The start of September is also forecast to see high pressure “become more dominant” across the UK, which would bring longer spells of dry weather and more sunshine.
