Max muscles his way to marathon finish

-

A FORMER Royal Marines commando has completed a full marathon with a 1.7-tonne car strapped to his back.

Max Glover, who now works as a fitness instructor, took almost 22 hours to pull the BMW 5 series the full 26.2 miles around a vehicle testing track in Leicestershire.

The 32-year-old, from Cardiff, said: “It started hurting quite a bit towards the end, but I just put one foot in front of the other and it was no problem.

“It took longer than I’d hoped as the track was steeper than expected.”

Max said he only trained for two weeks prior to taking on the mammoth feat at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, Lutterworth. He enlisted the help of friends to steer the car around the course which took him 21 hours and 58 minutes in total. I had an amazing support team who really helped me,” added Max, who trained by pulling vehicles around car parks.

Max decided to embark on the challenge to support Harefield Hospital in London who performed a double lung transplant on close friend Julie Parker.

He has now raised more than £1,500 for the Harefield Hospital Charity Transplant Appeal – which helps buy equipment, support patients and conduct research the NHS cannot fund.

Max said: “The transplant has transformed Julie’s life and the care she’s received has been excellent. Her recovery is going well and her positivity throughout has inspired me to use my passion for challenges for good.”
