ONE of Wales’ leading technology firms, Box UK, has announced expansion plans.

It comes as the Cardiffbased firm has marked its 21st year with a new 10-year lease and a £120,000 phase-one upgrade for its city-centre offices.

Set up by its managing director and Cardiff University business graduate Benno Wasserstein, it now employs more than 75 permanent and contract staff.

It specialises in the design, development and delivery of large-scale user-centred digital platforms for organisations worldwide.

The firm’s growing

client base includes Investec Asset Management, RS Components, Sodexo, NHS Wales, the British Medical Journal, Nationwide Building Society, ateb group, TBC Bank, Atradius and Cardiff University.

The upgrading and refurbishment of its offices in Westgate Street, which it has occupied for the past 10 years, will develop the existing space to support growing headcount and create new collaborative space.

The company’s established user experience and testing lab – thought to be one of the only like facilities in Wales – will also be upgraded.

Box UK will additionally reinforce its involvement with the wider technology community in Wales, with a new theatre-style breakout space, to be used for the sharing of knowledge, skills, best practices and innovations via tech talks and meet-ups, such as UX Wales and ProductTank.

Mr Wasserstein said: “We have always striven to create a climate where we drive innovation and deliver recognisable value for clients, helping to put Wales on the map as a key player on the global digital stage.

“This investment aims to provide the best environment for our people to work in, encouraging collaboration and constantly improving on the quality of our solutions. It is the next step in a 21-year journey that’s seen us invest over £50 million in the Welsh economy to date.”

Chris Munday, of Kames Capital, the property owner, added: “We are delighted to see Box UK underline their confidence in the Welsh capital with this new lease extension. Their presence in the offices in Westgate Street is an endorsement of our ongoing redevelopment of this citycentre creative quarter.

“We look forward to helping support their efforts as the business continues to grow.”
