Gamer is top with five A*s

-

A VIDEO game-loving teenager has picked up one of the best sets of A-level results nationwide after receiving five A* grades, writes Adam Hale.

Jac Griffiths, 18, pictured, has secured a place at the University of Bath to study computer science and mathematics following his outstanding grades.

Yesterday, the student at Cardiff’s Ysgol Gyfun Glantaf said he and his family were “amazed” by his results, having spent the previous evening worrying about having to go through the clearing process in case he failed to get the two As and a B that he needed.

Jac said: “I was hoping to get good grades but nowhere near that good. I was hoping to get As and Bs really.

“My parents were both as amazed as me, I think. All my worrying and doubting started to get to them a little bit. So we were all quite shocked.”

Jac, whose father is a bank worker and his mother a surgery manager, said he wanted to eventually turn his passion for video games into a career after university.

He said: “I want to go into some sort of programming. My dream has always been to develop video games, I’ve always been a geek over that. I play League Of Legends and Overwatch a bit on PC.

“I’ve always wanted to compete but I’m not quite there.

“Maybe at some point I’d like to start my own business but I haven’t looked into that much yet, I just want to take it one step at a time really.”

Jac received A*s in computer science, maths, further maths, physics, and for a Welsh Baccalaureate.

Jac said his academic success could be down to his lack of success with sports, saying: “I was never really good at sports so I decided then to put all my effort into school.”
