‘If some of them don’t front up and perform, they are opening the door for someone else’

WARREN Gatland has made three injury-enforced changes from the side beaten 33-19 by England at Twickenham last weekend in the first of Wales’ four World Cup warm-up matches.

Dan Biggar starts in place of Gareth Anscombe with James Davies coming in for Justin Tipuric at flanker and Jake Ball for Adam Beard at lock.

Here’s what Wales coach Gatland had to say ahead of tomorrow’s rematch with England at the Principality Stadium.

Why have you made changes? Gatland:

Justin Tipuric got a knock on an ankle last week. He’s fine, but we are resting him as a precaution.

Adam Beard has got a sore wrist. He’s probably alright for Saturday but we have made that change with Jake Ball coming in early on.

We are resting players when they are a little bit sore and taking the risk out.

What’s the extent of Gareth Anscombe’s knee injury? Gatland:

Gareth has done an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) and a meniscus (cartilage) so he’s done a really good job.

He did it when he made the break down the sideline. It wasn’t from a tackle, he’s just stepped off his right leg

You can see the jarring on the video. He said to the physios he felt he had jarred his knee and stayed on thinking he could run it off.

He since asked the physios if he’d done any more damage and they said: ‘No, you’d already done that and it wasn’t going to get any worse’.

Unfortunately, he’s going to require surgery and it’s going to keep him out for most of the season.

What’s the injury report on scrum-half Tomos Williams, lock Cory Hill and prop Rob Evans? Gatland:

Tomos has had a scan and he’s done a slight AC shoulder joint. He’s getting physio and it’s a couple of weeks.

Hill’s fine and Rob is starting to take
