THE historic building that will house Bristol’s new Channel 4 Creative Hub has been renovated.

Developer Cubex has restored the building, which is part of a massive waterfront development at Finzels Reach in the city, and the channel will now fit out the space.

The hub is expected to open before Christmas this year and will house a number of commissioning departments including drama, factual, popular factual and creative diversity.

It will also have additional operational

roles and will focus on supporting the channel’s relationship with the production sector – with a particular focus on genres in the South West, Wales and the Midlands.

Earlier this year, Channel 4 confirmed its plan to locate its new Creative Hub to Bristol, beating out a bid from Cardiff.

At the time of the announcement Alex Mahon, Channel 4 chief executive, said: “Establishing a Creative Hub in Bristol gives Channel 4 the opportunity to build on thriving production communities in the city and to partner with Cardiff and harness the power of the wider creative industry across the South West and Wales.”

Finzels Reach is a new waterfront neighbourhood in Bristol being developed by Cubex with funding from Palmer Capital.

Peter Walford, director at Cubex, said: “We have paid careful attention to restoring this heritage building, bringing it to life with stand-out, high-quality design, whilst preserving its historic features and charm.

“We are very much looking forward to seeing the space in use soon, supporting the city’s burgeoning creative sector.

“We are immensely proud to have attracted a major player like Channel 4 to Finzels Reach, joining the likes of Historic England, English Heritage and creative studio OUTLAW in the Fermentation Buildings.”
