- BRONTE HOWARD Reporter bronte.howard@walesonline.co.uk

THERE’S good news if you’re hoping to make the most of the August bank holiday – there’s no rain in sight and the Met Office is predicting temperatures as high as 27°C.

The weather does get cooler as the weekend goes on, with clouds moving in before Monday, but it’s looking like Wales should stay dry.

The Met Office has issued a heatwave warning for most of England – urging people to stay inside from 11am-3pm – but the warning does not cover Wales as the hottest temperatures are expected to be in the east. East Anglia could see temperatures between 30°C-33°C.

Cardiff is set for sunny and warm weather as Pride Cymru’s Big Weekend event takes place.

Marking 20 years since the first event was held, a variety of acts will perform over four stages, including drag acts, comedy acts and even a special dog show with Dogs Trust. Today also sees the parade through the city centre.

You can also expect street food, cabaret, funfair rides, a gin bar, a community market and a family area.

The main events are taking place on the lawns at Cardiff City Hall. And the parade will take place throughout Cardiff City Centre, starting at North Road.

Today is set to see the best of the weather, with highs of 27°C and plenty of sunshine from 8am-8pm. It will be sunny throughout the day before clouds move in by the evening.

Tomorrow and Monday will be slightly cooler, with highs of 21°C expected. The day will start off cloudy but this will change to sunny intervals by the late morning.

Clear skies are forecast for north Wales today as the Rhyl Air Show takes to the skies. The RAF Eurofighter Typhoon display team will be making their debut appearance at the spectacular as it celebrates its 11th year.

The show, which takes place today and tomorrow, will also feature the Lancaster Bomber, Spitfire and Hurricane along with the Tucano.

The bank holiday getaway got under way yesterday afternoon with heavy traffic seen on the roads.

A man had to be cut free from a car following a crash outside a holiday park on the A493 in Tywyn. North Wales Police said the incident happened at around 10.15am on the A493 outside the Pall Mall Holiday Park.

The air ambulance was also called to a crash at Tal-y-Llyn in Gwynedd following a one-vehicle crash.

There was heavy traffic in Capel Bangor due to the Big Tribute Music Festival. The delays were on the A44 in both directions at the Lovesgrove roundabout.

Delays were seen on parts of the M4, which showed a total of 24 miles of queuing or standstill traffic in four sections at 4.30pm. The longest was on the M4 westbound between Junction 23 and Junction 26 – a distance of nine miles.

There were also hold-ups on the A465 Heads of the Valleys Road, A48 in Carmarthenshire, A483 in Welshpool, the A55 near Anglesey and the A470, which was closed in both directions between the Erw Glas campsite and Llanrwst after a car crashed into a building.

Cardiff Airport was also expecting a busy weekend with 27,000 passengers.

Drivers are planning to make an estimated 16.5 million trips between yesterday and Monday.

According to the RAC, yesterday and today are expected to be the busiest days, with a combined 9.4 million trips.

The RAC’s Ben Aldous said: “For many people, this coming weekend is the last chance to enjoy a long weekend this side of Christmas – and with the weather improving, that’s likely to mean a lot of cars on the road heading to popular tourist destinations.

“A lot of the breakdowns we expect to see this weekend are preventable, so it’s vital drivers check over their car before setting out.”
