Town to stage its first-ever Pride event
FOLLOWING on from this weekend’s Pride Cymru extravaganza in Cardiff, the first-ever Barry Pride event is set to take place next month.
Modelled on the successful Major Pride event, which was held in neighbouring Llantwit Major last year, Barry Pride promises to be a flamboyant affair complete with make-up tutorials, music and entertainment.
Taking over High Street on Saturday, September 21 from noon, the event will be a day of fun for all the family and a celebration of the Barry LGBTQ+ community.
Businesses in the town have been asked to get into the spirit by designing their own window displays as part of a competition. They are also being encouraged to host their own Pride-themed events on the Saturday, with each firm included on a central map.
The day has been supported by funding from a new event grant from the Vale of Glamorgan Council which is designed to help bring a variety of first-time events to the county.
The event is being sponsored by make-up company Spectrum Collections, which was started by sisters Sophie and Hannah Pycroft in their garage in Barry in 2014. The firm will host live tutorials by Instagram influencer and make-up artist Ant Gorgeous throughout the afternoon.

Thousands attended the 20thanniversary Pride Cymru event in Cardiff at the weekend. About 15,000 took part in the parade, led by First Minister Mark Drakeford.
