Witness tells of serious car crash on A470

-

A MAN has told of the moment he heard a car “screeching” outside his home seconds before a serious accident closed the A470 for six hours.

An air ambulance, police, ambulance crews and the fire service were called to the accident near the junction for Bodnant Garden in Tal-y-Cafn, Conwy, at 6.30pm on Sunday.

One person was airlifted to Stoke Hospital with serious injuries and another two people were taken to Ysbyty Gwyendd.

Emyr Hughes told North Wales Live that within around 10 minutes of the “loud bang” he heard while sitting in his garden, three police cars, two fire engines and two ambulances arrived at the scene.

He said: “I was sitting in the garden with my partner and I just heard a screeching noise before I heard a loud bang. I knew immediately something bad had happened. Next minute, I saw two ambulances, three police cars and two fire engines outside my home, and then police began turning cars around.

“An air ambulance then landed in a field across the road from my house. It wasn’t there long before it flew off again.”

The road was closed in both directions until 12.30am yesterday while police carried out investigations at the scene.

They are now urgently appealing for anybody who witnessed the incident to come forward.

A post published on the North Wales Police Facebook page shortly after the incident said: “Urgent appeal for witness to the road traffic accident on the A470 near TalY-Cafn at 6.30pm today.
