Overblown schemes that deliver no value

-

WOULD it be out of the question to ask what is going on with the Delta lakes and Swansea City Bay deal? Over recent months, I have read with interest stories of controversies, large pots of public money and conspiracy that all make for a wonderful Shakespearean tragedy. But the biggest tragedy is that this is all very real.

Recently documented controversies are always of great interest to people. And they all appear to have one thing in common. That is, such projects all have white middle-class men at the helm, who are only really thinking of themselves. All I see is empirebuilding.

There should be an end brought to this nonsense. They talk a good game. But the public is starting to see through these fallacies.

Where is the logic of building multi-million-pound schemes such as a Wellness Village, a Factory of the Future, Homes as Power Stations and alike? I have seen plans, designs and drawings of exuberant buildings that would make Gordon Gekko of the film ‘Wall Street’ very proud.

Meanwhile, there is a very real emergency in our country. We still have people living on the streets, endemic fuel poverty and people requiring food banks.

But will Mark Drakeford and co at the very least stop burying their heads in the sand like ostriches?

Please start to fix the most urgent problems first, rather that engage in follies that in the long run will deliver little value.

Perhaps it is time now to call a close to trivial Welsh Government concepts that look good on paper and move on to something else of substance. What is the point in flogging a dead horse?

Richard Jones,
