Danny ready to upset Hammers

NEWPORT County starlet Danny McNamara is ready to reignite one of football’s most brutal rivalries at Rodney Parade tonight.

The 20-year-old Millwall loanee gets a chance to tear into his old enemies West Ham in the Carabao Cup second round.

And he will be bringing an army of friends and family who will bring a taste of the East London hostilities to South Wales.

“I’m a Millwall player and a Millwall fan as well so it will be a good game to be involved in, hopefully we can get a result,” he said.

“My whole family are Millwall, they were born around the ground.

“They absolutely love me playing for Millwall and it’s my boyhood team so it’s great for me.

“My dad, my mum and my girlfriend follow me up and down the country, my dad watches me home and away which is brilliant.

“I got loads of messages asking about tickets and stuff, there will be a few of my family there on Tuesday night.”

Newport have beaten Leicester, Middlesbrough and Leeds, drew with Champions League finalists Tottenham and competed with Premier League champions Manchester City in the last two seasons.

And the hardcore Millwall supporters in the McNamara family will be at a raucous Rodney Parade to watch Manuel Pellegrini’s Hammers become their latest victims.

Newport manager Mike Flynn has masterminded a run of 15 games unbeaten in the league heading into the Carabao Cup second round tie.

And McNamara reckons the big game atmosphere can spur the League Two side onto the most satisfying of upsets.

“I’m a London lad so it will be a big game for me, it’s something to look forward to,” he added,

“The league is the priority but the cup is a nice distraction, especially when you get a big team like West Ham.

“It could be one of the biggest games we play all season.

“The atmosphere at Rodney Parade has been class, the fans have been very loud and I even heard them chanting my name last weekend which has to be a good thing.

“They stick by us and it really helps us out on the pitch.

“But we just have to keep working hard and hopefully we can get the win.”
