Shock as Paul Potts fails to make BGT show final

-

SINGER Paul Potts has said he will “never give up” after he was axed from Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions over the weekend.

Replying to shocked fans who said he was “robbed”, the Port Talbot-based performer said: “I’ll definitely never give up. I love what I do too much for that.”

After his performance, judge Simon Cowell told ex-salesman Paul: “I’m going to be honest with you, Paul, I thought you started shaky and then halfway through the song it took me back to your first audition, which was you realising if you don’t hit the big notes it’s over.

“And that’s what happened, Paul, you hit the big note when it mattered. What I admire about you is you didn’t need to be here tonight and the fact that you care is why you are a champion and always will be a champion.”

The decision not to send him through to the final was made by the 250 fans at Wembley Arena who watched the pre-recorded show live.

Paul later revealed he had been put off by a last-minute change in filming, which was handed to him by producers just moments before he went on stage.

He tweeted: “Was little frustrated with myself as after 15 run throughs, Production gave me a change of camera direction on my way to the stage and it left me looking for the camera that came from different direction.

“Shouldn’t have allowed that to make me think, as I need to feel when performing.”

Fellow judge Amanda Holden told listeners to her Heart Radio breakfast show yesterday morning that she had been “stunned” by the decision.

She said: “He is our first-ever Britain’s Got Talent champion, he is an absolute trouper, a gorgeous man, very talented. But then you can never argue with people who are voting...

“He had nothing to be disappointed about – he was absolutely brilliant, he brought the house down, and I’m stunned he didn’t go through.”
