Leading duo looking to continue excellent start to the campaign

-

BARRY Town United and Cardiff Met sit joint top of the JD Cymru Premier after four matches – and both will be gunning for another three points today to continue their excellent start.

Gavin Chesterfield’s Barry have their noses in front on goals scored and, ahead of the home clash with Caernarfon Town, have been further booted by the return of Newport County striker Momodou Touray on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old Wales U21 star also spent last season on loan at Jenner Park, winning the league’s young player of the year award.

Meanwhile, like Barry, Met have taken 10 points from 12 so far, with last weekend’s 1-0 triumph over Newtown their third win on the spin.

It was also a second successive clean sheet and it’s that stat, rather than their league position, that pleases boss Christian Edwards most as they gear up for a trip to Carmarthen Town.

He said: “People start mentioning league tables this early, it’s a dangerous thing.

“The most important column for me, at any stage throughout the season, is the clean sheets column.

“If you keep clean sheets, you’ve got every chance of winning football matches.”

There are also two other league games today, which also kick-off at 2.30pm.

Airbus UK Broughton, the only side in the division yet to register a point, will be hoping to finally get off the mark at Aberystwyth Town.

Meanwhile, the other promoted side Penybont welcome Bala Town to the Kymco Stadium aiming for their first win.

Champions The New Saints and Connah’s Quay Nomads are both in Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Scottish Challenge Cup action today.

TNS go to Stenhousemuir’s Ochilview Park (3pm), while the Nomads’ bid to repeat last season’s stunning run to the final begins at home against Cove Rangers (5.15pm) live on S4C.

Both sides will then play their rearranged league fixtures on Tuesday night, with TNS hosting Newtown and Connah’s Quay entertaining Cefn Druids (both 7.45pm).
