Extinction Rebellion to hold training camp

-

A TRAINING camp for the next Extinction Rebellion protest is being held near an ancient Welsh forest.

The group expect hundreds of “new and existing Welsh rebels” to camp out in Borth ahead of large worldwide protests planned for October.

The climate change protesters took over large parts of Cardiff in July, blocking a main road for three days and causing disruption across the capital.

Extinction Rebellion Cymru said: “The festival will be a safe space for people from all over Wales to learn about the issues surrounding climate breakdown and what positive actions we can take to deal with them. There will be talks, training and workshops, as well as a chance for people to reflect on their experiences, connect with one another, and receive support at this worrying time.

“It is intended partly to prepare supporters for the next wave of UK-level action in October.”

Starting from October 7 Extinction Rebellion groups plan to protest in cities across the world.

The group said: “We’re asking all rebels to take at least two weeks off work. It’s going to be huge.”

The festival will run from September 13 to 15 in Ynyslas, and will include training in non-violent direct action, de-escalation and facillitation.

Organisers say everyone including “vegans, meat-eaters, farmers, young and old” are welcome to the event held at the Tŷ Gwyn Farm. Talks on the science and history of climate change and spaces for “relaxation, regeneration and healing” will also feature at the three-day festival.

A shuttle bus will run between Borth train station and the campsite.
