Hospital nurse support for cancer sufferers

-

PEOPLE with cancer can now get advice and support at three south Wales hospitals after a £230,000 investment by Macmillan Cancer Support.

Macmillan has funded information pods at Morriston and Neath Port Talbot hospitals and refurbished its existing pod at Singleton, working in partnership with Swansea Bay University Health Board.

The refurbished pod at Singleton Hospital now has a private room where patients can have face-to-face conversations with Macmillan cancer information and support service coordinators about any issues or concerns they may have.

Richard Pugh, head of services for Macmillan Wales, said: “Cancer can affect every part of your life, not just your health and around 14,000 people are living with cancer in Neath Port Talbot and Swansea.

“Our information and support pods at Neath Port Talbot, Morriston and Singleton will support people to get the information they need to manage cancer’s impact on their life.

“These new pods are a fantastic example of where we spend money raised by our amazing fundraisers.”

Gareth Howell, director of nursing and patient experience at Swansea Bay University Health Board said: “By working in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, we are able to provide services that help to address a clearly defined need in cancer care.

“Through these new and improved services we can ensure we offer the best possible support to anyone affected by cancer.”
