Parliament is now a threat to democracy

-

IN the Supreme Court it was said that parliament rules.

That is wrong, in a democracy the people rule, but parliament has decided that it is above the people, that its power is greater than the people.

The people have spoken, the people have said Out of Europe, a democratic parliament would obey the people, even if it did not agree with what the people voted for.

You cannot get a greater test of democracy than that, the people have voted Out and they should obey the people, even if that means leaving without a deal, unless of course parliament is above the people, is more important than the people. Oh no, that can’t be, not in a democracy, can it?

What is happening is like the bad old days, when you had to be one of the landed gentry to be allowed to vote, because the people would vote for things that we (parliament) would not like.

I have always voted, from the time I was old enough to. I am 69, and I have always urged people to vote because that is important for democracy, it is the only way the voice of the people can be heard, it is the only way the people can decide what is best for them, without a minority (including parliament) telling the people what is best for us.

If parliament succeeds in seizing power from the people, then I will never vote again, because once parliament is successful in doing that once, then how can I (the people) know that they won’t do it again the next time I (we) vote, I can’t, it is an incredible thing to say but parliament has become a threat to democracy.
