Xenophobes now dominate society
IT WAS with a mix of sorrow and anger that I read the article on Manuela Hughes in your paper on Saturday. Unfortunately it is a sign of the times when a person who has lived, worked and contributed to this country for nearly 30 years is treated with such pathetic xenophobia. This is not the only example as there are instances of people speaking Welsh in this, their own country being told to “go home” by poorly educated idiots who now seem to think they have a license to say such things. I would hope that the majority of the country would be appalled at this, but given the hysteria which the gutter press and this ultra right-wing Government are attaching to our leaving the EU, then I despair for the future.
There are many decent people in this country who do not hold such views but I can understand that people who would have come to this country to work and contribute will now not do so, as the UK has unashamedly announced itself as anti anyone who isn’t British. People like the lady who asked if Manuela was a Nazi should stand in front of a mirror and ask the very same question of themselves.
Thank you, Manuela, and everyone else who has come here to Wales to live and work for all that you have done for us here in Wales and I hope you have many more years contributing to our country. We need people like yourselves far more than we need the delusional xenophobes who now seem to dominate our society.
