Committed to providing the best possible education for its pupils
ST John’s College has achieved an enviable reputation both in Wales and among the top independent schools in England as a centre of academic excellence.
It is one of the top performing independent schools in Wales and was recognised by The Sunday Times as the Welsh Independent School of the Year 2018.
The school also made The Telegraph’s top 10 of best value private schools in Wales and the UK. Specialist mentoring and one-to-one guidance is offered so that students are fully supported at all levels.
The examination results are a truly outstanding achievement for pupils, many of whom proceeded to Oxbridge and top Russell Group universities.
Following last year’s fantastic results, headmaster Mr Shaun Moody said: “We are absolutely delighted for our students. These results are a testimony to both the students’ exemplary work ethic and their teachers’ resolute commitment to support each and every pupil.
“Many congratulations to the class of 2019!”
The school’s strong, close-knit family community ensures that all pupils receive the care necessary to develop their full potential.
Indeed, Estyn inspectors have observed that “The school’s provision for: care, support and guidance is of a high quality. This level of support makes an
exceptional contribution to pupils’ high standards, wellbeing and attitudes to learning.” (Crown Copyright 2018)
The school’s new sixth form centre at Eastern Business Park provides additional teaching space in a modern, professional environment and has been a tremendous success and in the last three years.
The purpose-built classrooms, new common room and studyresource area with high-speed wi-fi greatly enhances the sixth-form experience, creating an environment that is conducive to learning while allowing students greater independence.
The school has created an exciting enrichment programme of co-curricular activities with the development of its sports field, local charitable activities and the setting up of the Duke of Edinburgh programme.
New initiatives, coupled with expanded musical provision and continued success in chess, public speaking and Lamda have greatly enhanced the educational experience at St John’s.
Mr Moody said: ‘We remain committed to our aim of providing the best possible education for our girls and boys, as they become young women and young men, embracing all that life has to offer with passion, commitment and integrity.”
St John’s College has a distinguished record of success with university admissions. Specialist mentoring and one-to-one guidance are offered so that students are fully supported with their subject choices, Ucas personal statements, university choices and ultimately career paths.
The school has an outstanding reputation for gaining places at first-class universities.
Sixth form students are encouraged to participate in a range of activities aimed at augmenting their educational experience.
In the performing arts, students have the opportunity to become fully involved in the staging of senior dramatic productions, LAMDA and the award-winning concert orchestra.
They can also take an active role in the student council and sixth form prefect system, as well as mentor and advise younger pupils and become inspiring role models.
