Flynn eyes exciting end to season for Exiles

-

NEWPORT County manager Michael Flynn is hoping for an exciting end to the season as his side edged closer to the League Two play-off positions with Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Macclesfield Town.

The win, courtesy of a Joss Labadie goal, means the Exiles remain 11th in the table, but they are now eight points below seventh with three games in hand.

“Hopefully it will be an exciting end to the season,” added Flynn.

“I hope we will get one of two more players back in as we have injuries. As long as we keep everybody fit then these games in hand will be good as we’ll have momentum.”

Flynn admitted Newport should have won more comfortably against the Silkmen, saying: “I thought we played quite well for the majority of the match but looked a bit tired towards the end.

“We had one or two new faces in our side and players coming back from injury. We held firm to get three points.

“We could have scored more if it wasn’t for their keeper. I’m just happy with the three points which is more important.

“All the players worked hard for each other and it was a solid performance.

“I thought Jordan Green was excellent tonight and was a real attacking threat which gave us a little bit extra.

“And Joss Labadie was very good and he’s starting to get back to his old self on a consistent basis.

“He needs to play like this every game, but he could have had a hat-trick in the first-half.”

With transfer deadline day approaching, Flynn would also like to see a quick end to his pursuit of Wales star Joe Ledley.

Ledley has been training with the Exiles over the past few weeks and is still doing so, and he was at Rodney Parade to see the win over Macclesfield.

The midfielder is a free agent so he can join a new club after the transfer window closes at 11pm tomorrow, but Flynn doesn’t want the long-running saga to go on for too much longer.

“If anything’s going to happen, I’d rather do it sooner than later,” said Flynn.

“It’s not going to drag on because, I’ve got to be honest, I’m bored of the questions!

“I know you’ve got to ask them; I understand that. But, trust me, if there is an update, I’ll tell you.”
