Man’s death no longer suspicious

POLICE investigating the death of a 66-yearold man who died suddenly at a house in Neath said his death is no longer being treated as suspicious.

Yesterday South Wales Police said a 55-year-old who was arrested at the time, and subsequently released under investigation, will not face any further action.

A police spokesman said: “Following extensive investigations, Mr Pugh’s death is no longer being treated as suspicious, and nobody else is being sought in relation to the incident. Both Mr Pugh’s family and the 55-year-old man have already been made aware of this update.”

An inquest was opened into Mr Pugh’s death on October 24.

DCI David Butt, of South Wales Police, told a hearing at Swansea Civic Centre that officers received a call to the property at 10.30pm that evening where Mr Pugh, of John’s Terrace in Tonmawr, was in cardiac arrest.

They administered CPR before paramedics came and took over. Mr Pugh died later that evening.

DCI Butt told the inquest: “It was established he had been involved in a scuffle at an address with another male before collapsing.”

The property in Talbot Road was sealed off as a crime scene and officers found evidence of a scuffle, the inquest heard.

A post-mortem examination had been carried out but at the time of the inquest opening in October it was heard it was not been possible to establish a cause of death.
