Under insurance seems to be an issue

-

PLEASE allow me to respond to the opinions expressed in your letter pages by Mr John Edwards, Porthcawl (Western Mail letter February 21) and Ros Davis, Porth (February 22) in respect of flooding grants where my views were kindly printed in your letters page publication (February 20).

Some useful information. Both my partner and myself were out with shovels in Ynysybwl last Sunday morning along with around 30 other community residents clearing the mess following the river Clydach overflowing within our community.

I’m also a member of Clwb y Bont, Pontypridd, I’ve now discovered the insurance cover I organised, whilst being clwb treasurer in 2017, had its policy cover terms changed in 2018.

We have offered to provide chairs and tables etc, when the club sanitation certificate has been issued to the club. A legal H&S requirement.

Mr Edwards and Mr Davis are misrepresenting my views, this requires to be addressed with background information and my experiences.

Please both, I believe you need to change your crystal ball assertions, giving your own supporting life experiences in these matters it would be good for all of us.

If there is a situation where insurance is unavailable, I fully understand, I would support public funding, evidenced by an audit trail. My issue, where insurance has been available and rejected only on costs.

It’s my assumption, your two letter page contributors have never been involved in a traffic accident where the third parties have no insurance cover?

These drivers are still able have a motor vehicle instead of using public transport, why? It’s the same principle.

On the flooding issue, I attended one premises during our clean up efforts where a considerable number of cigarettes and cans of cider were stored upstairs. Under insurance appears to be the main business issue for several businesses making claims, yet another cost saving exercise.

It’s all about priorities, if the public sector check these background claim details before issuing public funds, before acting like Santa Claus. I would be very supportive of those who have tried to resolve liability issues beyond their evidenced reasonable control.

Clayton Jones Ynysybwl, Pontypridd
