Dragons ace happy to follow instructions

-

“THEY kept telling me to shoot more” laughed Davis KeilliorDunn as he looked back over his first start for Wrexham.

Patience has been a virtue for the 22-year-old since his arrival at the Racecourse in January on a deal until the end of the season, Keillor-Dunn having found himself on the periphery of the first team in the ensuing matches.

Making just cameo appearances off the bench in wins over Woking and Harrogate, and the uninspiring draw with Dagenham & Redbridge, Keillor-Dunn was an unused substitute more than fortnight ago as Wrexham left Chesterfield on the back of an agonising and controversial lastgasp defeat.

But granted a first start in Wrexham colours at promotion chasing Bromley last Saturday, KeillorDunn shone in a youthful front three along side Jordan Ponticelli and Dan Jarvis, even going on to open the scoring with a superbly taken solo effort before Ponticelli added a second late on to ensure a vital three points for the Dragons.

Following his debut off the bench in January in the win over Woking, manager Dean Keates had joked his instructions to Keillor-Dunn were to get more shots away after finding himself in a number of promising positions, something the forward has clearly adhered.

“Brilliant, (to celebrate) in front of the fans as well, I was just absolutely buzzing,” said KeillorDunn.

“To get the goal, to get off the mark on my first start is amazing, and hopefully I can get many more for the club and we can climb the table.

“In training we’ve been working on things and it has been really good, I’ve been enjoying it. I have just been waiting patiently and I knew the chance would come (to start) and once the chance came I knew I had to take it. I hope I did that and we got the three points too.”

Saturday’s win, a first in five attempts at Bromley’s Hayes Lane ground, was a third in their five games, a run which has seen them collect 10 points from a possible 15 and move out of the bottom four relegation places.

Midweek saw Maidenhead miss the chance to leap back above the Dragons as they went down to a 3-1 loss at home to 22nd placed Ebbsfleet, while AFC Fylde and Dagenham both saw matches postponed.

But Keillor-Dunn insists the Dragons can only look at themselves and can’t worry about the sides around them in the relegation mire.

“(It is about) consistency for me,” said Keillor-Dunn. “On the back of a win it is about going and winning again. It (the league table) is crazy, but we need to just take care of our own business.”
