Tan is ‘not interested’ in Malaga takeover

-

CARDIFF City owner Vincent Tan is not interested in taking over fallen Spanish giants Malaga, the Western Mail has learned.

Reports emanating from Spain claimed a number of consortia are interested in taking control of the Spanish club, with Tan’s Berja group said to be one of the leading contenders.

The news came as something as a surprise to many Bluebirds fans, who remember that just last summer Tan vowed to concentrate fully on Cardiff City and was even considering selling his 20 percent stake in MLS side Los Angeles FC to do so.

However, impeccable sources close to Tan have told us that he is categorically not interested in tabling a bid to take over the Segunda Division club.

Tan’s focus is on the Bluebirds and helping get the club back up into the Premier League.

Malaga have recently been placed into administration and the subsequent rumblings have become messy.

Former owner Sheikh Abdullah Al-Thani has been ordered to testify in court on April 15 after the small number of shareholders in the club reportedly pushed for him to be investigated owing to allegations of money-laundering offences.

It has been a huge fall for Malaga, who as recently as 2013 reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and they are desperate to clamber their way back up into the upper echelons of the Spanish game.

Bluebirds owner Tan was touted as the man to lead that charge, however he appears to have ruled himself out of the running.

Instead, he will continue to focus his efforts on Cardiff City’s own bid to catapult themselves back into the top tier.
