Cardiff boss working hard to help Glatzel front up for run-in
NEIL Harris says he’s desperate to help striker Robert Glatzel prove his naysayers wrong and fire the Bluebirds into the Championship top six.
The German has struggled to hit the ground running in South Wales since his £5.4m move in the summer, netting five goals in 24 appearances in all competitions this season.
There were positives to take from his performance during the defeat to Nottingham Forest, but Harris accepts there is so much more to come from the striker, and admits it may take time for him to really settle into life in the Championship.
However, the City boss insists he’s been pleased with what he’s seen from the 25-year-old on the training pitch.
He said: “You look at Glatz and over the course of the season he’s shown moments. I think the fans would agree. He’s shown every day that he’s a great lad.
“He’s extremely professional and he works extremely hard. He’s moved the family to Wales to be successful and he wants to be successful.
“I think there is an understanding from the fans that there is patience needed with foreign players who come over. Sometimes it does take that first season to really find your feet.
“We always want, me more so than anyone else, to see players immediately hit the ground running.”
Cardiff go into this weekend’s crunch clash with Brentford six points adrift of the play-off positions, and solving the attacking void left by Lee Tomlin has, on the basis of the last two games, proved a big challenge.
Nevertheless, he insists Glatzel still has the potential to become a Bluebirds hero, adding that getting the best out of him on the training ground has recently been a big priority.
“I work with Glatzel all the time on the training pitch to develop him as a Championship player,” he added.
“That’s my task at the moment. I do see improvement in him. But there’s still so much more to come.
“Ultimately Robert Glatzel is an excellent finisher. A very, very good goalscorer.
