Skipper confident Biggar will play

WALES captain Alun Wyn Jones is confident fly-half Dan Biggar will be fit to face England today.

Head coach Wayne Pivac named the Northampton player in the team for the Guinness Six Nations fixture at Twickenham, despite him suffering a knee injury while on club duty last weekend.

Initially, it was feared Biggar would not recover in time to face England, but Jones has allayed any concerns.

He said: “I can’t guarantee you anything really, because I am not a medical expert. All I know is he is on the team sheet and he is going to play.”

Biggar being fit boosts head coach Pivac, who is also able to call upon Liam Williams and Josh Navidi for today’s match.

“It is always the thing before competition and in competition, you want a healthy squad,” captain Jones added.

“Thankfully Dan has come through and is available this week. He trained today and we are looking forward to tomorrow.”

Despite being named in the Wales starting XV on Thursday, Biggar’s fitness has been a big topic discussion this week.

Jones said: “I have seen Dan move and shake. I have seen him kicking, I have seen him passing so I am not a medical professional, but I can tell you he is going to play.”

Wales enter the fixture on the back of two consecutive defeats, but that will not add to their motivation of winning at Twickenham.

The 137-capped Jones added: “Of all the games in the Six Nations, bar the week before a Grand Slam game, it’s the question you are always asked and the week everyone wants to know about.

“If you could be involved in one, it would be this one because of what has gone on before and the hype that goes around it. It does not get lost on you.

“It does alter the means of the beast a little bit when you play them home and away, but that adds to the excitement and the build-up in the week.”
