WHEN a Valleys football club invited Welsh rock legend Mike Peters to play a benefit gig for flood victims in their village, the musician duly agreed to turn up and perform a greatest hits set.

Mountain Ash FC contacted The Alarm frontman and asked if he would help raise funds for those in the village adversely affected in the aftermath of Storm Dennis.

The rocker agreed immediately, keen to support a community where many people found their homes flooded.

Now, the Welsh music star will play an acoustic show at Mountain Ash Rugby Club on Saturday, April 4, a gig that will feature many of The Alarm’s greatest hits including 68 Guns, Spirit of 76 and A New South Wales.

Dave Driscoll from Mountain Ash Town FC said: “As we saw the terrible scenes unfold during the storms that hit Mountain Ash and the Valleys, we thought as a football club in the community and as fans of The Alarm, that bringing Mike Peters to Mountain Ash Rugby Club would be a boost for the town and help raise some much-needed funds.

“Only last week The Alarm announced and sold out a concert at St David’s Hall in less than 24 hours. Demand for these tickets will be high, we expect fans of The Alarm to travel from far and wide to see Mike in such an intimate setting alongside residents of the town and Mike will perform a greatest hits set.”

Mike Peters said: “It was tragic to see the pictures on TV unfold of the recent floods in South Wales, especially in and around Mountain Ash. The Alarm has had a long history with the Valleys and with friends and fans from Mountain Ash.

“The Cynon Valley has been hit hard by the recent storms and if a show at Mountain Ash Rugby club can help the town then I want to be there; it’s going to be an exciting night of rock and roll!” Special guest for the evening will be Daz, a favourite son of Mountain Ash and a popular performer throughout south Wales.

Tickets are £20 and will be available from 10am on Tuesday, March 10, from Gigantic.com and a limited amount of tickets will be made available from the rugby club to purchase in person.

All money raised from the evening will be donated to the local Rhondda Cynon Taf Flood Relief Fund.
