Flynn hopes Gorman can strike for County

-

NEWPORT County have relied heavily on the goals of Padraig Amond in recent seasons.

But now Exiles manager Mike Flynn has a new Irishman on the block in Dale Gorman who netted County’s winner in a 1-0 victory over Morecambe on Saturday.

Gorman, a 23-year-old attacking midfielder who has represented Northern Ireland at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level, hopes County can build on their Morecambe success with another three points against Carlisle United at Brunton Park tonight (7.45pm).

He said: “We’ve got three tough away games coming up, but they are three games we are looking forward to.

“There are not many games left now so we need to win as many as we can to get as many points as we can and then we will see where that takes us.

“Hopefully we can use the Morecambe win as a platform and hopefully we can get another three points on Tuesday.

“Spirits are high now and we are really looking forward to it.”

There was little excitement when Gorman was brought in on loan from Leyton Orient in January, but he has had a strong start to his career with the Exiles.

Boss Flynn is delighted with the form Gorman has been in and believes he has a crucial role to play between now and the end of the season.

He said: “It was a great goal from Dale (against Morecambe). He took it so well and he meant it. He’s a clever footballer.”

Despite beating Morecambe, Flynn knows his side need to string a run of victories together to get close to the play-offs, especially after their 5-0 thrashing at Oldham Athletic earlier this month.

He said: “We’ll hopefully have one or two back for the game. Joss Labadie is definitely back, so we’ll have a look at things.”
