Woodman to stay at Swansea despite injury to Dubravka

-

NEWCASTLE United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka looks set to miss a significant portion of his side’s runin after it was confirmed he suffered a knee injury at the weekend.

And it has been confirmed that he may not feature again for Newcastle until the final weeks of the 2019/20 campaign.

With Dubravka, pictured above, facing a spell on the sidelines, Karl Darlow looks set to make the step up into the starting XI at Newcastle.

But the impending change in the North East does not look set to alter the situation of Swansea City goalkeeper Freddie Woodman.

The Swans signed Woodman on a season-long loan deal from Magpies last summer, and it’s safe to say the 23-year-old has impressed at the Liberty Stadium.

He has played every single minute of Swansea’s Championship action this term, keeping 11 clean sheets in his 37 outings as well as saving three of the five penalties he has faced.

As is usually the case with loan players, Newcastle did have the option to recall Woodman from his stint at SA1.

However, it’s understood the window of opportunity for the Magpies to prematurely end Woodman’s Swansea loan has now passed, meaning he will see out the remainder of the campaign under Cooper.

It no doubt comes as a huge plus to the Swans who saw Kristoffer Nordfeldt depart in January, with current second-choice goalkeeper Erwin Mulder yet to play a single minute of action under the current coaching regime.
