Calon Cymru Fostering makes dreams a reality
AS a foster carer, you could make a world of difference to a young person’s life and break the cycle of neglect by providing a stable, nurturing home. Fostering is also a rewarding career or vocation for those looking to make a positive change, making young people’s dreams become a reality.
Calon Cymru has been supporting foster carers and children looked after by carers for more than 23 years, with 24/7 support and comprehensive training. It offers a variety of services, from fostering teenagers, parent and child placements and working with sibling groups.
It has recently launched a pioneering therapeutically-led placements (TLP) fostering service, which is the first service of its kind in Wales.
You could help young people, who have suffered abuse and trauma, to access therapeutic support within a family environment, rather than a residential care unit.
Calon Cymru director, Sharon Cavaliere explains: “Being in a stable placement is vitally important to the development of children.
The Welsh Government reports that many children and young people are doing well in care in Wales. However, the study also highlighted significant challenges for children in care, particularly the need to support those children who are dealing with the impact of abuse and trauma.
“Calon Cymru Fostering has used these findings to ensure that the emotional health and wellbeing needs of children are addressed in a therapeutic way, while continuing to focus on providing high quality and long-term placements within the nurturing safety of a family home, that will help to meet their needs.
“Foster carers benefit from advanced training, weekly visits from their social work team and enhanced financial support”.
Could you change a vulnerable child’s life and provide them with a loving home and encourage them to grow? A wide range of training and 24/7 support is provided.
