Socialism and electric cars will ruin the UK

-

TWO letters from the Western Mail of March 16 are worthy of comment.

Mr I Richard is completely correct that renewable energy cannot power 30 million UK cars, plus vans, lorries, tractors, trains and planes etc. Without all that, the UK currently needs 60 gigawatts, whilst electric cars will demand a further 30GW, at least, in the National Grid. That is 90GW! On the windiest day possible, last week, UK wind energy generated 11GW! On calm days ,it generates below 2GW!

Of course, diesel and petrol cars won’t be banned from UK roads, so Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, Japan, Czechoslovakia, South Korea et al, will sell us millions more cars, damaging our balance of payments even further! With trillions of debt, “UK Ltd” would already be bankrupted if it was a normal business.

That brings me to Terry Banfield, who despises capitalism. Will he answer these questions, please? What work do/did you do? Is/was it public or private sector? At the end of the day, it is the UK private sector that must earn all the money for “UK Ltd” to pay for its huge public sector. Who else creates UK national wealth to pay for all these services ?

Do you own a house, Mr Banfield? If so, its increase in value is down to capitalism. If you are a genuine 100% socialist, will you ever sell the house for the same money you paid for it? Do you drive a car? Was it built by a capitalist company or are you driving a rubbish, tin-can East

European Trabant car? How many of those do we see on UK roads?

I look forward to your answers, Mr Banfield. There is plenty of hypocrisy around. I hope you are not part of it.

I am a self-employed capitalist running three small family businesses. I am 73, work most of the time, and don’t have an index-linked pension. Do you, Mr Banfield?
