Rototherm starts mass production of face shields

-

A PORT Talbot-based manufacturer of industrial measuring instruments has begun mass production of medical face shields in its support for the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Rototherm Group, which employs just over 100 at its UK main operation in Margam, said it has enough plastic to produce 190,000 protective face shields.

Tarkan Congar, the Director of Rototherm, who are based on the Kenfig Industrial Estate, said: “We were horrified by the poor levels of personal protective equipment fo healthcare workers, that we felt we had to do something.

“And we are incredibly proud of the Rototherm team, who in just five days, designed, developed and brought into production a new face shield to help protect our frontline staff in the fight against Covid-19.

“In particular we would like to thank Tata Steel and the Royal Mint for their support and help, as well as many others in the community for getting so much done so quickly. It is so appreciated and so important at this time.”

Rototherm began its first production run of 1,000 last week, but is moving towards 10,000 a day.

Mr Congar said: “We have enough capacity to produce 190,000 face shields and we will just keep pumping them out as demand at the moment is far exceeding supply.

“We have received calls for orders from places like America and Latin America wanting to take everything we have, but our focus is on supplying the NHS and the care sector here in the UK.”

He said the plastic for the shields were sourced from local suppliers.
