Brooks may be target for Prem League heavyweights

-

GIFTED Welsh youngster David Brooks will become a target for Manchester United and Tottenham this summer despite a season wrecked by injury, according to reports.

The Sun on Sunday say Bournemouth are ready to offload some of their top players, with Brooks (pictured), Callum Wilson and Josh King named as three stars who will bring in sizeable sums of money.

Brooks, 22, had previously been linked with the Premier League giants in a £50m move, but nothing materialised last summer and his 2019-20 campaign has been ruined by an ankle injury.

He has yet to play any games after twice having surgery on the ankle problem sustained in a preseason clash with Brentford.

However, with Brooks close to a return it is said United and Spurs could rekindle their interest although the transfer fee will be reduced significantly.

Old Trafford boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Spurs manager Jose Mourinho are big admirers of the current Wales Player of the Year, whose eye-catching form on the international stage has made him a wanted man.

Brooks’s last top-flight appearance came in a 3-3 draw at Southampton last April.

He scored seven goals in his first season in the top flight, and also bagged one for Wales in a Euro 2020 qualifier in Croatia.

Brooks is hoping to play again when Premier League matches get the go-ahead and is happy enough for that to be behind closed doors.

“No player would tell you it’s going to be the same without the fans and at times the fans can be that extra boost to get you the three points, or point you might need,” he said.

“I think it would be more difficult and it’s not going to be good for any team to play without any fans but I think everyone will be in the same boat, so you can’t really complain.”
