Woman burned boy’s arm with cigarette

-

A WOMAN burnt a boy’s arm with a cigarette after a confrontation in the street, a court has heard.

Jennifer Brown also pushed and punched the 16-year-old – despite being described as being “slight” in stature.

Mold Crown Court heard the assault was in the context of a neighbour dispute in the area.

Dafydd Roberts, prosecuting, said incident took place near Theatr Fach in Llangefni on Anglesey on a July evening in 2019.

He said the victim was playing football when the ball rolled away and was picked up by Brown. The defendant took the ball home before going back outside a short time later.

Mr Roberts said Brown approached the youth and “pushed him with both hands to his chest” before stubbing out a lit cigarette on his bicep and then punching him.

Police were called and in a subsequent interview the defendant said she had become angered by the playing of loud music.

Brown, aged 25, of Pencraig, Llangefni, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm when she appeared in the dock for sentencing. The court heard she is receiving support from community mental health nurses.

Elen Owen, for Brown, said the defendant “has her vulnerabilities” and was “slight” in stature when compared with the teenager in question.

She added: “She went beyond what could be considered self-defence but there were extenuating circumstances.”

Judge Niclas Parry said he was prepared to accept the incident had been out of character for the defendant and it was clear from everything he had read about her that she had “clearly come to the end of her tether”.

The defendant was sentenced to eight weeks in prison suspended for six months.
