Sian takes up newly created role at BBC Studios

BBC Studios has appointed Siân O’Callaghan to the newly created role of director of production operations in Wales.

Based at the public service broadcaste­r’s Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff Bay, she will report directly to Lisa Opie, managing director, UK Production at BBC Studios. She will also sit on the BBC Studios global leadership Group to champion business in Wales.

Ms O’ Callaghan brings more than 20 years’ production and business operations experience to BBC Studios in Wales. Currently the head of change at BBC Wales, she has played a key role in the relocation of the broadcaste­r to its new HQ at the Central Square developmen­t in the centre of Cardiff.

She started her production career in 1997 as a broadcast journalist before going on to produce political and news programmes for the BBC. Since then has held senior producer and producer roles on various popular factual programmes including The One Show and Crimewatch.

Ms Opie said: “Siân has the perfect mix of skills for this role as we look to grow our production business in Wales. Her operationa­l and editorial background perfectly equip her to build a culture we’re proud of. She has a deep understand­ing of the unique strengths and challenges for the sector in Cardiff and will ensure we attract the very best talent to this really important base.”

Ms O’Callaghan, said: “I am delighted to be joining BBC Studios at such a crucial time. The BBC Studios teams in Wales have such expertise and produce incredible programmes across many genres that are loved by millions around the world. I can’t wait to start working with everyone at Roath Lock to take the centre from strength to strength and deliver our ambitions for the future.”

She will take up her new role in September.
