Drugs worth £300,000 seized as vehicles stopped

DRUGS worth around £300,000 have been seized after two vehicles were stopped in Dumfries and Galloway.

Road policing officers stopped a grey Toyota Avensis at around 11.10am on Saturday on the A74(M) northbound carriagewa­y near junction 15 at Moffat.

Further inquiries led them to discover drugs in the car, believed to be cannabis, with a maximum street value of £200,000.

A 35-year-old man was arrested and charged in relation to the incident and appeared at Dumfries Sheriff Court on Monday.

He has since been remanded in custody.

The second incident involved a grey Ford Focus which was stopped at around 12.50pm on Monday on the A74(M) near junction 16 at Johnstoneb­ridge.

Drugs, also believed to be cannabis, were recovered with a maximum street value of £100,000.

A 29-year-old man was arrested and charged in relation to the incident and he was remanded in custody following a court appearance on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, two people have been charged after almost £130,000 of drugs were recovered in Glasgow.

Police raided a property in Tresta Road, Maryhill, at around 1pm on Tuesday and seized the etizolam tablets.

A 33-year-old man and a woman aged 34 have been arrested and charged in connection with drugs offences, and they are expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday.

Detective Chief Inspector John Morrison said: “This was a significan­t recovery and I want to reassure the people of Glasgow that we continue to use every tool at our disposal to remove these illegal substances from the community.”
