THEY SAID WHAT?

-

“It is absolutely true that the number of casualties has been too high, but I can tell the House, as I told (Sir Keir) last week and indeed this week, the number of outbreaks is down and the number of fatalities in care homes is now well down”

- Boris Johnson seeks to defend his handling of the coronavirus crisis after Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer accused the Government of being “too slow” to protect people in care homes.

“We all want schools to reopen, but that should only happen when it is safe to do so. The Government is showing a lack of understanding about the dangers of the spread of coronavirus within schools, and outwards from schools to parents, sibling and relatives, and to the wider community”

- Nine education unions, representing school leaders, teachers and support staff, urge the Government to “step back” from its plan to reopen schools in England to more pupils from June 1.

“We didn’t know what people might want during this unprecedented time, but I think normality is actually what people crave so, on a Saturday at least you know you’ve kind of got that moment that you’ve always had at this time of year, where you can sit down with your family, either through Zoom or FaceTime or on the sofa if you’re lucky to be with them, and enjoy a bit of ... the fact that us Brits get through difficult times by being stoic, being able to laugh at ourselves”

- Amanda Holden, above, speaks on Good Morning Britain about Britain’s Got Talent remaining on air during the current crisis.
