Swans could go Dutch in No.1 hunt

-

SWANSEA City have reportedly joined the race for SC Heerenveen goalkeeper Warner Hahn.

According to Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblat, the Swans are the latest club to have expressed an interest in the 27-year-old, who is set to become a free agent this summer.

However, they could well face competition from Belgian giants Anderlecht, while there are also potential suitors in the MLS, Turkey and elsewhere in the Championship.

Moving for a keeper would certainly make sense for the Swans, with current number one Freddie Woodman’s future still uncertain.

Swans boss Steve Cooper has already said he’s keen on extending the Newcastle loanee’s stay in South Wales, with the player himself recently admitting to enjoying life in SA1.

Nevertheless, without the riches that come with Premier League football, it’s difficult to envisage how the Swans could keep hold of their current number one.

And, with Erwin Mulder seemingly set to follow Kristoffer Nordfeldt out the door this summer on a free transfer, strengthening options between the sticks is likely to be a big transfer priority.

Hahn, who came through the youth academies at Sparta Rotterdam and Ajax, would certainly add some valuable experience, having turned out for FC Dordrecht, Feyenoord,

PEC Zwolle and Excelsior in his career, before joining Heerenveen in 2017.

Commenting on his future, representative Revien Kanhai said the current uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic may well heighten the demand for free transfers, which would be a challenge for the Swans given their modest transfer kitty.

He said: “Warner is, of course, an attractive player.

“Many clubs have known him for a long time because he has played in all national youth teams up to and including the Dutch juniors.

“It is a matter of waiting for things to be made concrete and to go in the right direction.”
