Bluebirds are latest club to be linked with Garner

-

CARDIFF City are reportedly the latest club to register an interest in taking Manchester United youngster James Garner on loan next season.

The Echo understands that a number of Championship clubs are keen on taking the 19-year-old midfielder next term, with Swansea City and Sheffield Wednesday also said to be among the teams circling for his signature.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be keen on loaning the player out next term, with Garner having impressed for the club’s under 23s and in their Europa League campaign.

And, according to the Daily Mail, Neil Harris’ side is among the clubs ready to pounce when the summer market opens.

It is likely the Bluebirds will face stiff opposition, of course, South Wales rivals Swansea chief among them, with it having been suggested that Garner could become the latest former member of Steve Cooper’s England under-17s set-up to be lined up for a move to SA1.

A move for Garner, though, would appear to make little sense for Cardiff. The club, like most others in the second tier, are facing financial difficulty and chairman Mehmet Dalman tempered fans’ expectations when it comes to spending big this summer.

Which means Harris will have to be extremely selective when it comes to where he strengthens his squad.

For Swansea, given he has already worked under Cooper, it’s easy to see why he’s been mentioned with a move a little further down the M4.

There has been some suggestion that Swansea’s decision to enforce wage deferrals on the current squad could potentially be an obstacle to any incomings, but Fairwood insiders are confident that the decision will not have a negative impact on their transfer business.

Garner, who has been with the United academy since the age of eight, has been a regular at under-23 level and is extremely highly rated by those in the know at Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer handed the youngster his debut back in February 2019 for the trip to Crystal Palace, along with several appearances in this season’s Europa League campaign.
