‘Child-friendly’ face visors produced for schools

-

HUNDREDS of child-friendly face visors have been donated to schools in Swansea ahead of them reopening to all pupils from June 29.

The visors, made by UWTSD’s Swansea College of Art have been delivered to Dunvant, Cila, Waunarlwydd and Bishopston primaries, as well as Bishop Gore and Pentrehafod Comprehensives.

They feature artwork by UWTSD graphic design graduate Brogan Evans.

The UWTSD team, led by Dr Ross Head, have been using the facilities at Swansea College of Art to produce the visors and have already supplied many to businesses and care homes.

Dr Head, design manager of the Cerebra Innovation Centre in the Wales Institute for Science and Art at UWTSD, said the visors could be used, if needed, when first aid is being administered or if someone felt unwell.

Some teachers might also feel reassured to know they could wear one if they felt it was needed.

Welsh Government guidance for schools reopening does not require masks, although general health advice is that they should be warn where social distancing is not possible.

Dr Head said: “I have been really happy to be involved in making visors to help the care sector, businesses and schools. It has helped give people confidence in returning to work and it has been great to be doing something that makes a difference

The school face visors made by a team at University of Wales Trinity St David to people’s lives.”

A spokesman for Swansea Council said: “We’re making good progress on preparations for the safe reopening of schools on June 29.

“PPE is not required during general

school activities but all our schools will have PPE available should it be needed.

“We’d like to thank UWTSD for their support and their donations to some of our schools.”
