Brewster: It’s like being at Anfield

- ANTHONY WOOLFORD Sports writer anthony.woolford@walesonline.co.uk

RHIAN Brewster has likened his successful loan spell with Swansea City to life at Premier League champions Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, with both clubs being “one big family”.

The striker is back at Anfield having bagged 11 goals in 22 appearances for the Championship club after joining in January and propelling the Swans into the play-offs.

But Steve Cooper’s side missed out on tonight’s big-money play-off final at Wembley after losing their second-leg clash at Brentford last week to go out 3-2 on aggregate.

Brewster scored Swansea’s goal last Wednesday before leaving South Wales for Merseyside, where his future will be thrashed out in talks over the remainder of the summer.

Whatever happens, Brewster will remember his time at Swansea fondly, believing what Cooper has achieved at the Liberty mirrors Klopp’s transformation of Liverpool.

“I have loved every moment of it, I love the club, I love the fans, I love the staff, I love everybody here,” Brewster told the Swansea City website.

“I don’t know what is going to happen next year but if I don’t come back Swansea will always be in my heart.

“I’ll be Swansea for ever and I will always keep tabs on them no matter what. I just hope that the boys go for it again next season. If I’m here then we’ll all push together, but if I’m not then I hope the boys dig deep, go for it again and don’t look back.

“They will use this as motivation as I know we’re not going to want to feel like this again. I think we should just keep pushing and pushing and I love everyone at the club.

“It’s kind of the same being here and being at Liverpool because we’re just one big family.

“I’m always going to look out for Swansea. The Jack Army has been amazing to me. The first game I played I had a song, my first song.

“I will never, ever forget that, that will always be in my mind. I can’t thank the fans enough and I love the Jack Army.”

Last season Brewster made his long-awaited senior Liverpool debut when starting the League Cup win at MK Dons, and also began the 5-5 draw with Arsenal in the same competition. He made a late appearance in the FA Cup triumph over Everton. In the January transfer window Brewster arrived at the Liberty Stadium on loan to join up with Cooper, who was in charge of the England side who won the Under-17 World Cup when the Liverpool youngster was top scorer.

Reports suggest Klopp is keen to take a close look at the player during pre-season to help determine the next step of his career.
