‘Huge relief ’ as Jodie secures Oxford place
A TEENAGER from the Valleys has secured her place at Oxford University after achieving outstanding grades in her A-levels.
Jodie Neville, 18, from Treharris, will be heading to St Edmund Hall College at Oxford in October to study Law after achieving A*A*AA grades in Law, Sociology, Maths and History.
Having been interested in law since she was a child, it was a weeklong work experience placement at 30 Park Place – a barrister chambers in Cardiff – that cemented her decision to study the subject at university.
The talented Coleg y Cymoedd learner, who has dreams of becoming a criminal barrister, fell in love with Oxford after taking part in its residential summer school programme last year, spending time living on campus and attending law lectures.
While her college studies might have now come to an end, this hasn’t stopped Jodie from working hard and continuing to challenge herself.
Rather than watching TV she has been busy preparing for her course, purchasing books on the reading list and drafting essays.
She has also joined the “Opportunity Oxford” scheme – a course specifically designed for prospective Oxford students coming from colleges and state schools, which is aimed at helping to bridge the gap between further education and university.
Jodie, said: “I’m so happy to have got the results that I needed to get to university. I have always wanted to go to Oxford and knowing that I have secured my place is a huge relief!
“Getting in was the most important thing to me but getting higher results than I needed is a massive bonus.
“Oxford is one of the best universities in the world and I am so excited to start my course in October.
“I’m really passionate about law and can’t wait to take the next steps towards my goal of becoming a barrister.”
