Sam hoping to follow in his father’s footsteps
CARDIFF Blues No. 8 and former England Under-20s star Sam Moore is eyeing Wales honours after returning to the city of his birth earlier this year from Sale Sharks.
Moore, who was born in Cardiff but brought up in England, attended the prestigious Sedburgh School and represented the Red Rose at under-16, 18 and 20 level.
He was also a member of Eddie Jones’ 2018 Six Nations squad as an apprentice, but will return to Wales after penning a long-term deal in the capital.
Standing at 6ft 6in and tipping the scales at more than 17 stone, the former Everton academy footballer joined Cardiff Blues in January, where his father Steve also spent three seasons.
Now, MailOnline reports he is setting his sights on a Wales call-up, revealing the extent of his involvement with England at senior level was just a few training days and a few conversations with coach Jones.
Moore, 21, said: “I played for England at age-grade level, but I’d be honoured to play for Wales if that chance came around.
“First of all I’ve got to try to get things right with Cardiff Blues.
“The Blues gave me an offer I really couldn’t refuse and things fell into place very quickly.
“The transition of coming home to Cardiff has been fine because I’ve got some family here.
“I still remember some of the city from when I was younger.
“I’ve always believed in making the most of whatever opportunity you’re given. You have to grab it with both hands.
“I was happy to play for either and I took the avenue that opened up for me.”
Moore’s father made his name with Swansea before switching to Moseley and Cardiff. He won three caps for Wales.
