ARUGBY player whose body was found near a viaduct died from “multiple injuries” to his head and body, an inquest opening heard.

Bradley Carter, also known as Bradley Tarbuck, from Merthyr Tydfil, was discovered in undergrowth beneath Cefn Coed viaduct at around midday on Thursday, August 6. Police are not treating his death as suspicious.

The 29-year-old was described as an “inspirational” and “greatly respected” young man who played for both Dowlais RFC and Cefn Coed RFC during his career.

An inquest opening at Pontypridd Coroner’s Court yesterday heard emergency services responded to an incident near Cefn Coed viaduct.

Mr Tarbuck was found dead, having sustained injuries to his legs, body and head. He was later identified by his mother.

A post-mortem examination was carried out on August 14 and a provisional cause of death was given as multiple injuries.

Coroner Graeme Hughes said: “Having regard to the circumstances in relation to Mr Tarbuck’s death and the results of the post-mortem, there’s reason to expect Mr Tarbuck’s death is unnatural, which triggers the duty upon me to carry out an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mr Tarbuck’s death.”

The inquest was adjourned to take place on August 17 next year.

Following the news of Mr Tarbuck’s death, a statement from Dowlais RFC said: “Tragic news as we learn of the tragic passing of former player Bradley Tarbuck. Our thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends at this time. We are proud to display Brad’s U16 Boys Club of Wales Cap. RIP Bradley.”

A statement from Cefn Coed RFC said: “All at the club send our heartfelt condolences to the Carter family on the passing of Brad.

“He was a talented and popular player at the Cefn Coed RFC and will be missed by his teammates and friends at the club. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.”
