HUDDERSFIELD Town have signed striker Danny Ward from Cardiff City. The forward joined the Bluebirds from Rotherham United in 2017 but recently saw his contract expire.

Speaking after Cardiff completed the capture of Wales international striker Kieffer Moore from Wigan Athletic, Neil Harris admitted he expected Ward to leave the club this summer.

And on Monday night the Terriers confirmed that Ward, who made more than 100 appearances for Huddersfield in his first stint at the club, became their first signing of the summer.

Huddersfield Town head coach Carlos Corberan said: “We are really happy to add Danny to our squad; he’s a very interesting player with a lot of experience at this club and in this league.

“He’s really ambitious, and when a player wants to come back to a club it’s because he feels something special about being a Terrier and feels that he still has something important to give to the fans.

“As a striker he gives us a lot of options; he makes very intelligent runs, looks always for the long option, and will help us in the build phase because he’s good with the ball when he comes deep.”

Ward has signed a three-year contract with the West Yorkshire club.

He netted eight times in his 33 appearances for Cardiff last term.

He scored a total of 12 goals in 68 outings in all competitions in his three seasons in South Wales.

“I’m very happy. All my family are here in Yorkshire and Huddersfield, so it’s the perfect move to be back home,” said the frontman.

“I knew a lot of the people here; Hoggy and some staff members. Then obviously the new head coach coming in, finding out about his style of play, everything just seemed to click.

“It’s class coming back and seeing familiar faces. Sometimes going to a new club can be daunting, but it always helps when you see the old faces.

“I’m a Yorkshire lad, so to be back home is perfect for me.

“Hopefully, I can hit the ground running this season and get Huddersfield Town back where they deserve to be.”
