Harry and Meg swap cottage for a palatial £7.27m California home

-

GIVEN, that for the past six months, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have effectively been sofa-surfing, they’ve not done bad for a couple of unemployed royals.

Now they have taken out a £7.27m mortgage to buy a palatial ninebedroom Californian estate.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will now need to find almost £50,000 per month over the next 30 years to cover the repayments, property taxes and insurances.

The couple managed to secure a

mortgage £2.4m for the renovation of Frogmore Cottage, their former home near Windsor Castle.

It was previously agreed that the former senior royals would pay £18,000 a month to cover the cost of refurbishing the cottage which they left when they fled the UK in November last year.

All told, the couple now have to find around £68,000 per month to meet their financial commitments, let alone other bills.

It is a staggering amount. It’s difficult to imagine, given their preachings as self-appointed eco-warriors, how owning and running such a massive home is in keeping with how they tell us all to live.

The energy bills for keeping it and its 16 bathrooms cool in California’s searing summers and warm during its winter nights, will be a king’s ransom.

The pool alone will use more water in a month than some remote villages with one well use in half a year.
