Too many have been left abandoned

-

IT DOES seem that everyone has been catered for in regards to the lockdown. The employed and unemployed stood proud alongside each other, accommodated financially by the state’s endless money tree, and everyone now is happy to have got through this, and the Government ecstatic in the knowledge that “everyone” benefited from its generosity.

The true facts are millions have been left to suffer while the furloughed sat around in the lap of luxury supported by you and me, and there were those like myself and millions of others who continued to work for our money.

However, I have been contacted by one family who say they only receive £74.35, the ESA payment. This from a family that, before March, had a secure income, and like many thousands in Wales they have been unable to receive any grants, and no sign that they will be in employment any time soon. And then there are those who are self-employed, they were given a choice by Work and Pensions to wait for the two “grants” or to claim Universal Credit, not enough to live on alone. £409.89 a month, is simply not a living wage, and all this for citizens that worked hard before the lockdown; now they are left high and dry.

We should not believe the lies we have bought into. There is one last issue that needs to be dealt with: support now for those abandoned in lockdown and disenfranchised today. We were able to “support the NHS”, now support the “survivors”, families on the edge of oblivion, all thanks to central government abandonment.
