Hotel closes days after reopening as worker tests positive

-

A HOTEL has closed just days after reopening after one of its staff members tested positive for coronavirus.

The Fairways Hotel in Porthcawl was forced to shut on Friday – seven days after opening its doors to customers for the first time after lockdown.

The venue, which also has a restaurant and bar, is likely to remain closed until Monday, September 7.

All other staff members at the hotel have returned negative tests for Covid-19.

Manager Gaynor Exon said: “It was one member of staff that tested positive; however, he was showing no symptoms.

“All other staff members have received their results and luckily we are all negative. It’s looking like it came from a family member. We are likely to reopen from next Monday around the 7th, which would mean we have been closed for 10 days following guidance from Public Health Wales.

“It is frustrating as we have been off for close to six months, it is really annoying but we are doing our best.”

Ms Exon added that an external company had visited the premises on Friday to fog and deep-clean the building.

A statement on the hotel’s website reads: “Sorry, we are temporarily closed.

“Unfortunately one of our staff members has tested positive for the virus though without any symptoms. NHS Track and Trace have been contacted with the member of staff.

“All other staff were tested and we should have the results on Monday, so until results are known we have to remain closed. From the advice from Public Health Wales we will be free to open once all members of staff has tested negative.

“We are taking extra measures to ensure safety of all and will remain close for the next ten days, which will lead up to the end of next weekend. The Fairways was deep cleaned Friday day (Fogged) so the premises has had the relevant measures in line with HSE guidelines.”

The news comes after Fairways celebrated its first day back on August 22 after lockdown.

At the time, they said: “We want you to feel safe in these uncertain times, that’s why we have a one-way system, twometre spaces between tables inside and out alongside our Track and Trace system.

“We look forward to seeing old and new customers very soon, we thank everyone that has been so patient waiting for us to re-open!”
