Three new schools are hit by Covid-19

-

THREE more schools have been hit by Covid-19 making it a total of seven since children went back to school last week.

Pupils in one class at a school in Bargoed have been asked to self-isolate for two weeks after a member of staff tested positive for coronavirus.

A spokesman for Caerphilly Local Education Authority confirmed that a member of staff at St Gwladys Primary School in Bargoed had tested positive.

He said that, following advice from Public Health Wales, 21 pupils from one class will be required to self-isolate for 14 days.

All parents of the children concerned have been contacted and advised of the appropriate process to follow.

The spokesman for the local authority said: “We fully appreciate that this will cause concern to parents and children at the school, but it is important to note that all safety measures are in place throughout the school and that they are being followed strictly to limit any cross-contamination.

“The school remains open and it is not necessary for any other child to self-isolate, stay away from school or to be tested, unless they develop symptoms of Covid-19.

“The school will continue to provide regular updates to parents.”

Rhondda MP Chris Bryant posted on his official Facebook page to say that two schools in his constituency were taking precautions following concerns over coronavirus cases.

They are believed to be at Cymmer Primary School and Pontygwaith Primary School.

Mr Bryant posted to say: “I understand Cymmer Primary School have contacted relevant parents and carers regarding a positive case at the school.

“I can't emphasise enough the effort staff make to ensure the school is safe for all other pupils to attend, and are ensuring that track and trace is operating as it should be to mitigate risk of transmission.

“For those who've received emails, please follow the self-isolation advice.

“For those who haven't, staff are doing they're best to ensure it's absolutely safe for your child(ren) to go to school.”

In a separate post he added: “Parents and carers at Pontygwaith Primary School have received a message on class dojo regarding the need for certain classes to selfisolate.”

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council last night said they were unable to confirm details regarding both schools.
