Probe on as man in black car makes advances to young girls

-

POLICE are investigating reports of a man approaching a number of young girls.

Reports suggest a man in a black car has approached them in the Splott area of Cardiff in separate incidents.

Peter Taylor’s 16-year-old daughter was walking home from work when she was first approached by the man in Newport Road and then again near Clydesmuir Industrial Estate, close to her home.

Police say the family of a 10-year-old girl has also come forward to say she was approached.

Mr Taylor, 35, from Tremorfa, Cardiff, said his daughter has been left shaken up following the incident last Monday.

He said: “My daughter was walking home from work. A man in a black car was looking at her weirdly but she never thought anything of it and walked home.

“She was around 300 yards from my house and he started shouting at my daughter, asking her to get in the car.

“She was frightened and panicked and phoned me to come and get her.

“The man reversed around a bend and was acting in a dangerous manner. A car came behind so he had to move.

“I picked my daughter up and brought her home and she was absolutely devastated. She’s been crying ever since.”

Mr Taylor posted an appeal on Facebook to try to track down the man.

However, Mr Taylor said other girls have also been approached in the area since the appeal.

He added: “We’re a close-knit community and everyone in the area looks out for each other. “Something needs to be done” South Wales Police is investigating and urging witnesses to come forward.

A spokeswoman for the force said: “South Wales Police is investigating reports of a suspicious man in the Splott area of Cardiff.

“At 5.45pm on Monday, September 13, a black VW Golf car approached a 16-year-old girl near Clydesmuir Industrial Estate. The girl told the male driver to go away.

“Following this incident, a 17-year-old girl has described a man shouting inappropriate comments from a black VW in Tweedsmuir Road.

“The family of a 10-year-girl has also come forward to report a man leaning towards her from a black vehicle parked on Vale Road on Tuesday afternoon.

“Although there has been no physical contact, we appreciate there is concern in the community.
