Praise for head after letter to ‘super’ pupils

-

A HEADTEACHER has sent a heartfelt and emotional message to more than 200 pupils told to self isolate after a case of coronavirus was confirmed.

Brynteg School head Ryan Davies wrote all his year nine pupils a letter telling them what a “super” year they are and how they’ll be missed while they stay at home for two weeks.

More than 200 pupils and 15 staff were told to self isolate on September 15 after a year nine pupil at Brynteg School tested positive for coronavirus.

Mr Davies told them he felt sad when they had to leave the school in Bridgend after barely two weeks back and praised them for their mature attitude.

Teachers would be in touch and they won’t miss anything, he promised.

The year nine pupils will have to return to learning from home.

Parents were so overwhelmed by the letter they posted it on social media and said what a “lovely” and “awesome” head Mr Davies is.

One said Mr Davies’ words “brought tears to my eyes” and another said the children and families felt lucky to have him.

One mother summed it up posting: “Such a kind, caring and supportive headteacher. Our children are so lucky they have a wonderful school for them to return to. Your heartfelt words really do go a long way. Thank you so much, for the care you’ve shown them, in such unprecedented times.”

Another said: “Awww what a lovely letter! Thank you Mr Davies you really are an awesome Head Teacher and our children are lucky to have you taking care of them and looking out for them xx Thank you and Thank you to all the Staff also for keeping us updated x.”

Mr Davies also wrote to parents and carers saying sending pupils home was “the last thing we wanted to do” but the school had to follow professional advice.

His letter to them added: “I do completely understand how much pressure this places on you at home and I thank you for your support at what must be a very challenging time for you and your family.”

Brynteg is the latest in a total 13 schools across Bridgend to send pupils home to self isolate after confirmed Covid-19 cases among staff or pupils.

A total 64 of Wales’ 1,579 schools have reported confirmed cases of Covid-19 via councils and social media as of September 16. No up-todate definitive data was available from Public Health Wales or the Welsh Government. Last Thursday PHW said there had been 36 cases in 31 schools. One college, Coleg Cambria, has also confirmed a case.
